Kim skated by ignoring the rules of gravity. With so much power and confidence, she was meshing all the difficult jumps. Like a fierce tornado, she managed to complete intricate spins. Her program was so breathtaking that she earned an overall total of 207.71 points. This number not only eclipsed rival Mao Asada’s record of 199.52 for the highest combined score but also made Kim, a two-time Grand Prix final champion, the first skater to surpass the 200 mark. She became the first female skater to surpass the 200 mark.
There’s absolutely no doubt that Kim is a great athlete. However, it seems like she might receive many calls from people in the musical and performing arts fields, too. No matter how demanding her routine was, she was never breathless.
Even though the political tensions between Korea and Japan must have placed heavy pressure on her shoulders, she showed unruffled calm throughout the entire competition. Every emotion in her program was genuine, and her acting was mesmerizing. She expressed so much with her arms and face. Kim crafted a mood that entranced the entire arena and enthralled the crowd.
The question is this. How does she do it with so much ease, yet with so much elegance? At this year’s competition, it seemed as if she was dancing on a stage in ballet slippers. The triple jumps and the spins were done effortlessly. Audiences just couldn’t believe these tricks were done on a slick sheet of ice. Kim was flawless and her score proved that she was this year’s best skater.
 The charismatic dance was demonstrated with flexibility and powerful energy. By winning the competition, the 18-year-old skater finished the last competition of the season before the Olympic Games.
